Maestro Christopher Zimmerman and the Fairfax Symphony create music made for YOU. In the upcoming 2011-2012 performance season, the FSO and top notch guest artists will craft exciting and intruiging performances reflecting the wealth and breadth of classical music available from composers all over the world.

The season opens with romantic and lush works by groundbreaking French and American composers. From the beautiful and introspective Chausson to the feverish romanticism of Berlioz, this program sets the emotional tone for our concert season.

SIBELIUS: Tapiola
FARIAS: Commissioned Concerto
BEETHOVEN: Symphony No. 3, "Eroica"
Composer Javier Farias incorporates the indigenous folk music and instruments of Chile, his native land, into a new work commissioned by the FSO. As part of the FSO's three year Sibelius focus, Tapiola is his last and most evocative score.

GLAZUNOV: Chant du Ménéstrel
HAYDN: Cello Concerto in C Major
SHOSTAKOVICH: Symphony No. 11
This program gives the listener much to feast on, highlighting the classical freshness of a Haydn concerto, the lyrical beauty of the Romantic period and finally the drama and shattering intensity of Shostakovich Symphony no.11.
Passion, depth, and texture are all on display in this concert which includes four minutes of Glazunov 's romantic lush melody a la Rachmaninoff and a sweeping epic that you can practically see as well as hear--a musical "Dr. Zhivago" by Shostakovich, Glazunov's pupil.

SIBELIUS: Symphony No. 7
SIBELIUS: Finlandia
Three of the most popular and colorful pieces in the whole standard repertoire are on this program, as well as Sibelius's final and, arguably, greatest symphony. The combination of Sibelius's early blockbuster and his final profound work makes an exciting conclusion to the FSO's Sibelius exploration.
