Work with the premier regional orchestra in the United States, located conveniently in the City of Fairfax. The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce a paid, eight-week internship in the field of arts management as part of the ExxonMobil Community Summer Jobs Program.
DESCRIPTION
• Apply classroom knowledge to the “real world” of managing and funding a $1.3 million non-profit arts organization.
• Gain hands-on experience in concert preparation and production for the FSO’s performances in the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival, the “Sounds of Summer” concerts in Fairfax County parks, and in preparation for the FSO’s 2009-2010 season of concerts at George Mason University's Center for the Arts.
• Assist with marketing and audience development for the arts, including “guerrilla marketing” of a season with a new Music Director.
• Assist with the organization and execution of special fundraising events for a non-profit arts organization, to include the annual Golf Tournament and a special “launch” event for the 2009-2010 season.
• Work with professional staff and volunteers in a variety of traditional and non-traditional settings.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Available for eight weeks, Monday through Friday, 9 AM-5 PM, thirty-five (35) hours per week, beginning in May/June 2009.
• Open to full-time undergraduate students returning to college as a sophomore, junior, or senior (Fall 2009) in a U.S. college or university. If an international student, you must be eligible to work in the United States.
• Energetic, interested in pursuing a career in arts management, proficient in MS Office, have excellent writing and interpersonal skills, willing to work with professionals and volunteers, and interested in learning.
